Lately we’ve been stretched a little further than usual, perhaps it’s the time of year, the upcoming holidays, the financial crisis, or the ever-present pressure to be productive, happy, and successful all at the same time. When we’re going through moments like this, we look for comfort amongst new music releases. Sure enough, there’s always an artist, band, or project who has put together some sage words of advice or provided a means of momentary escape for us to draw some support from. This time around, it’s a sense of solidarity we find in Groundwaves‘ poignantly named single ‘The Loneliest Human’.
Born in Russia, raised in Ukraine, and now based in the Canadian metropolis of Canada, Groundwaves (aka Vasya Mykyteiek) is naturally drawn towards groovy tones, creative guitar lines, and jovial vocal harmonies. That combination is exactly what you get in ‘The Loneliest Human’, which creates a reassuring atmosphere to complement the lilting melancholia that runs throughout the track. No doubt, listeners can apply their own experiences to this emotive single, but for Groundwaves, it’s the idea of someone dealing with the after-effects of a break-up that sits at the core of this song.
Here, the songwriter, musician and signer provides some extra context to the song’s inspiration;
“It’s my first recorded “breakup” song. It’s sad but groovy. I compare the loneliness of losing someone to being hopelessly lost in the outer space. All alone, far from home, never to be returned. Still alive, not for long – the oxygen is running out, but does it even matter, since no one else is there?”
So whether you’re floating through the cosmos or going through something more mundane, Groundwaves is here with the perfect song to get you through it.
