If there’s one thing that we love at Unrecorded, it’s an interesting origin story. For French artist La Biche, that’s certainly the case as she was raised by a pianist, accordionist and music teacher father, but later discovered her love of dance and ballet which she studied professionally. However, not one to be confined, she’s expanded her creative horizons into composition and poetry, a passion that has always run parallel to her endeavours in dance. The result is a powerful concoction between music and movement, with the ethereal character of La Biche at the centre.
You can discover La Biche‘s unique form of expression in ‘Combien’, which she declares as “a different space-time”, hinting towards the otherworldly quality of this track. This highly stylized single transports the listener into the sensation of love-induced vertigo as one faces the inevitable end of a relationship. The crisp, cool and eerie elements slowly evolve throughout the track, like a flower gradually opening in the light to reveal the vulnerable centre. These richly echoed sounds complement the breathy melodies of La Biche‘s enchanting vocal, which she uses to carefully unravel this poetic narrative. It’s a halfway house between alluring dark-pop and spine-tingling industrial electronica.
Accompanying ‘Combien‘ is this avant-garde, cinematic music video that allows the artist to execute her poignant physical storytelling. Strikingly dramatic landscapes, chilling dark-pop melodies, and heart-wrenching poetic lyrics are the three pillars of this truly memorable release.
