Unparalleled storyteller Curse of Lono shares personal story ‘Krieger’

Felix Bechtolsheimer, also known as Curse of Lono, has been a regular guest here on Unrecorded. Now, he’s back with a new single that delves into the haunting story of his German-Jewish relative Heinrich Schwarz during the turbulent months preceding the atrocities of World War II. Titled ‘Krieger’ (which means “warrior” in German), the track is accompanied by a unique animated video crafted by artist Stefano Bertelli, the song immediately captures attention and keeps listeners hooked from the first few seconds. With a rumbling bassline that feels like thunder and Curse of Lono‘s raspy, raw vocals, anticipation builds as the song unfolds. While ‘Krieger’ may be a slow burn, the wait is well worth it, leading to a polished and powerful crescendo towards the end.

Emotionally charged and historically significant, ‘Krieger’ showcases Curse of Lono‘s musical prowess. The track begins with minimalist elements, with thick bass and restrained drums providing a foundation for Bechtolsheimer‘s soulful voice and delicate guitar work to shine. However, bursts of intense heaviness punctuate the texture, responding to lyrics that recount the experiences of his grandfather’s uncle. Heinrich Schwarz, despite being a decorated war hero, faced deportation by the Nazis. His arrest and subsequent internment at concentration camps such as Dachau and Buchenwald serve as a sobering reminder of the horrors inflicted during that time.

Curse of Lono exhibits wicked talent and mastery in the art of storytelling through music, making his work a must-listen.
