The Kid and I’s ‘Wonder, Pt. 1’ is a heartfelt alt-rock journey of healing and discovery

The UK’s emerging alternative rock sensation The Kid and I have caught our attention and just in time since their debut EP is already on the horizon. Fronted by actor and musician Jacob Powell, this vibrant band infuses energetic rock with indie sensibilities, crafting music that resonates with the complexities of modern life.

The EP’s first installment is ‘Wonder, Pt. 1’, an alt-rock anthem that embarks on a profound journey of self-discovery. Starting with tender balladry and building into a crescendo of potent rock, the track possesses a timeless quality that lingers in the listener’s soul. Inspired by iconic acts like Foo Fighters and Blink-182, their unique blend of alternative rock blooms with every chord.

This track is genre-defying gem weaving prog-rock elements with emotive melodies. Penned during a period of isolation due to the covid-19 pandemic, the songwriting process became a poignant reflection on loss. The passing of Powell‘s father, grandmother, and grandfather formed the core of this exploration, leading to themes of self-love and healing.

As Powell shares, “Wonder Pt 1 is about grief and the damaging effects it has years after the event itself takes place and finding the strength to reach out and ask for help during it.”

Working alongside esteemed producer Nick Kozuch at Unit Studios, the band’s sound achieves that professional quality. It’s really reflected in the single’s breathtaking composition, which greatly compliments those poignant lyrics and the full band’s masterful instrumentation. All in all, ‘Wonder, Pt. 1’ the song draws listeners into an emotional journey that remains compelling from start to finish. We can’t wait to hear what part two has in store…
