Authentic, vibrant and original rock isn’t something that’s easy to come by these days. We’re not talking about the kind of guitar-drum-bass formation with appendages like “indie” and “alternative” attached to it; we mean pure, unadulterated rock. However, that doesn’t mean this musical rarity is impossible to find, as demonstrated by London band The Midnight Vortex.
This talented group haas been rocking around the UK capital since 2022, brandishing around their fiery and energetic classic rock songs across the city’s many stages. It was this experience gigging that convinced The Midnight Vortex to take their four most-loved tracks and put them into an EP to reach a wider audience. ‘Burning Hell’ is the final of these tracks, a heavier number that appears as unbridled emotionality on the surfaces, but possesses a deeper and richer undertone that gives the track a refined air. While the band explains that ‘Burning Hell’ is the sonic distillation of a messy and passionate love affair, for us it’s reminiscent of London in summer… which we suppose is an affair of a different kind. Scorching days trekking across hot pavements; late, wild nights relishing in the relative cool; beautiful people shedding their inhibitions. It’s about intensity, as carried on through into those singed guitar riffs, riotous percussion, thundering bass and unmatched powerhouse vocals.
While the northern hemisphere might be cooling down at this time of year, we get the sense that things are just heating up for The Midnight Vortex.
