Take your mind back to 2021 when we introduced you to the magic of Suffolk’s indie duo Amethysts and the release of their self-titled album. With two years of songwriting, releasing new music and playing shows (pandemic permitting), the pair have upped their game considerably, as you’ll hear in their transcendent new single ‘Bloodline’.
Produced by Alex Gordon (known for his work with The Cure and Bat For Lashes) and mastered by Tom Stanford, the track masterfully combines shoegaze-inspired guitar riffs, robust drum patterns, and deep sub-bass. These elements, coupled with the duo’s delicate, melancholic harmonies, create a mesmerizing blend of electronic, indie, and dreampop can be summed up as their self-coined “nu-gaze” style.
At its core, ‘Bloodline’ explores the profound transformation that occurs after a significant life change; as such, the track mediates between a past self and the renewed version. The song encapsulates this transition through self-discovery and resilience, with lyrics that validate the idea that the person you’ve evolved into is a fortified and enhanced version of your former self.
As one-half of Amethysts, Clarice, says, “Living in the transition from who you used to be, to who you are now after a significant life change. Bloodline is about the journey where you slowly start to find yourself again and realise the old you is now an enhanced and strengthened version of the person you used to be. And despite the challenges and conflicts with yourself along the way, you’d happily do it all again”
‘Bloodline’ is the first track to be shared from the duo’s upcoming EP, New Moon, which promises to convey more of the band’s resonant, melodic and emotionally-intelligent music.
