Our favourite Ottawans Wotts have returned with another mind-tingling, foot-tapping, and ear-catching new single ‘ALLO!’. This track represents vibrant colour to the max, an aesthetic that’s carried on over into the block graphics of the song’s cover arts. Now that you’ve been teased as to the track’s florid potency, let’s five into what really matters – the listening experience.
Inspired by the likes of Pond and Djo, ‘ALLO!’ opens with a quirky, retro synth keys melody; a short and sweet introduction that quickly bursts into frenetic action. Thumping, clunky drum beats propel the effervescent synth-pop sounds forwards. As a a result, it’s a track full of life, passion and an urgency to take the present moment in hand. Like so many iconic songs about falling in love, this one centres around the mysterious and irresistible figure of a woman “who comes and gos” at her own will. She symbolises freedom from societal pressures and a validation of one’s own agency, leaving the two songwriters in slack-jawed awe. The song’s palpable enthusiasm doesn’t let up throughout, with the sudden end leaving the listener on a cliff-hanger. Our only choice is to hold on tight and reach for the replay button.
‘ALLO!’ is also the first insight into Wotts‘ forthcoming EP, PETALS, so stay tuned for more dance-worthy indie-synth goodness.
You can also find ‘ALLO!’ in our Shades of Pop and Outsiders Club playlists.
