Pascoe make their debut with lively indie-pop single ‘Education State’

Breezing through our speakers on a breath of fresh, beachy and The 1975-infused air is the ear-catching debut single ‘Education State’ from new duo Pascoe. Based in Copenhagen, Viktor Pascoe Medom and August Johan Andersen have been informed by Denmark’s penchant for forward-thinking indie-pop, but there’s an additional je-ne-sais-quoi that makes this track stand out even more. Interestingly, the half of the band who has donated his name to the project, Viktor Pascoe Medom, has tapped into his Australian heritage to enliven the outfit’s sound with the carefree, beach-bound undertones.

This cross-cultural pollination combine with the duo’s syncopated collaboration has resulted in an unmissable listening experience. From the outset, Pascoe make their presence known with a stomping drumbeat and fiery guitar riff, which immediately induces the urge to head-bop and toe-tap along. When this initial swell of sound dies down, we’re then treated to poetic lyrics that ruminate on the impact that a shared upbringing in two places can have on a person; here being Denmark and Western Australia. It’s a vibrant reminder that education can take many forms, with some of the most profound lessons taking place out there in the real world.

After the first few dreamy verses, Pascoe launches into an expressive interlude complete with passionate sax solo. ‘Education State’ is a truly uplifting song, ideal for listening to while swimming in happy memories of the past.
