Although this is only the second single we’ve heard from the artist, the two releases already show an impressive breadth of style from the musician.
Documenting the dramatic fall-out after the end of a friendship, the 14-year-old musician narrates this scenario with wisdom beyond her years. The clever word choices are delivered in a mature tone that’s peppered with feelings of disbelief, bitter regret, and melancholia. This gloomy resonance pairs charismatically with the floating composition. A slinking bassline underpins steely strings, patterned drums, layered vocals, and eerie synths. The overall result is such a compelling listen that gives on-screen high drama vibes akin to I Know What You Did Last Summer, except it swaps out the heat and long days for misty evenings and amber carpets of fallen foliage.
