Anyone with at least a smidge of common sense will be keeping a close eye on the Italian music scene, especially following recent successes like Maneskin and Mahmood. When we came across the Milanese artist Alice June, who describes herself as both the author and interpreter, we knew we’d found another gem. Far from a diamond-in-the-rough, this artist simply shines on her fourth single ‘The Right Way’.
In this indie-pop and alt-rock influenced ballad, Alice June sings with such passion and conviction, conveying the complex mix of emotions we often experience at the start of a new romance. Speaking straight from the heart, her lyrics are unfiltered as she ruminates on the excitement, trepidation, and joy of a new connection, as well as the courage is takes to leap into the unknown. As the song progresses, the intensity of the burning rock overtones meet the soulful melodies, growing to a bold and more confident crescendo. It’s clear that the past is of no concern and the future is a distant mystery; instead Alice June‘s character lives purely in the moment, flushed by a whirlpool of feeling.
‘The Right Way’ is clearly a well-directed song by Alice June, who sought out an international sound by recording the single between London and Milan, with mastering over in the US. The result is highly effective and widely appealing.
