Oftentimes songs that focus on mental health are from a first-person experience. After all, it’s easier to writer what you know, as the old adage goes. What the new single ‘steady’ from Northern California singer-songwriter Dominic Romano shows is that personal perspectives can also reflect on another’s struggles, especially where you’ve stood by as a close support to that person.
The whole song is imbued with a sense of comfort thanks to the soothing melodies, softly plucked acoustic strings, and gentle vocals. In keeping with the theme of support, the track is upbeat in nature conveying that with a helping hand there are better days ahead. As the artist sings in friendly tones, “steady as we go,” to demonstrate that they’re in it together, taking everything one step at a time.
The other element to ‘steady’ is that of love, a sensation which pervades this warm and intimate acoustic indie-folk song. The complementary harmonies of guest vocalist Anelda also accentuates the closeness felt throughout this track. For Romano, it doesn’t matter what challenges his romantic partner faces, his ultimate message is that it “can’t stop me from loving you.”
