Brighton’s dynamic five-piece Attic’O’matic returns with their latest single ‘Thoughtless’, a standout contribution to the Small Pond Emerging III compilation by Small Pond Studio. The band’s genre-defying fusion of jazz, post-punk, and electronica creates a sound both fresh and exhilarating. Opening with haunting synths and twanging guitars, Lorcan’s expressive vocals set the tone, reminiscent of King Krule.
‘Thoughtless’ expertly navigates sonic textures, introducing tight beats and a gliding bass before a beautiful chorus, showcasing Kam’s angelic vocals. The mid-point brings a rhythmic shift, emphasizing post-punk elements with choppy guitars and live drums, building a driving energy. The lyrics, addressing human disconnection from nature, resonate against the backdrop of the UK’s cost of living crisis.
Speaking about the track the band explain: “This song discusses human disconnection from the natural world and an unconscious yearning to return to the present. The struggles of adulthood often consume our minds, yet there are fleeting moments in which we are able to see our lives with a wider perspective. Written and recorded in the midst of the UK cost of living crisis, this track is a cry for alternative routes to exist in our society.”
With a diverse array of instruments, their stage presence is a futuristic spectacle, each element seamlessly contributing to their innovative sound. ‘Thoughtless’ is not just a musical achievement but a poignant cry for alternative routes in a society grappling with adult struggles, showcasing Attic’O’matic‘s growth and artistic depth.
