As recently seen in our Best New Tracks playlist, ‘The Way Love Burns (Out)’ from Stockholm-based project NEW ENTMT is one of the rare tracks to ascent to full review status. The product of Tobias Bergholm‘s introspective creativity, ‘The Way Love Burns (Out)’ is the first of five songs that the songwriter and producer plans to release, which altogether will touch upon themes of loss, friendship, and relationships.
Speaking about the build-up to his collection, “Three years may seem like a long time, but my goal was never to finish an EP; it was about confronting the turbulence in my life during that time. The songs helped me process and understand how I really felt. While I’ve always appreciated the power and simplicity of rock music, this project allowed me to explore a different creative path. I’ve been working with layers, nuances, and textures to create something different. Something new.”
This particular sizzling and relaxed-fit disco track blends in indie-pop melodies and a carefree west coast flow reminiscent of bands like Jungle and Honne. From the very start, this single grabs your attention with a retro-inspired wood wind refrain, grooving bass, and slow-paced drums. Following this vibrant introduction, Bergholm‘s laidback vocals wood in, bringing a calmer atmosphere with them. His lyrics contrast to this breezy aesthetic, “selfish and unkind, night beats drown my mind, I’m giving you up now.” This song portrays the fickle heart of a passionate person who falls in love as easily as they do out of it. In this light, this danceable indie track is as much a light-heated disco bop as it is a scathing self inditement.
It’s that kind of refreshing honesty that will keep us tune in to what NEW ENTMT will do next.
