Upcoming Leeds band about-faces explore the nuances of love in ‘Cinematic and Chrome’

On the cusp of a promising career, the young Leeds-based band about-faces unveil their third single ‘Cinematic and Chrome’. Following their debut ‘Under The Sun’ and sophomore track ‘The River’, this latest single is an even more confident and bold effort from the British five-piece capture the thrill and uncertainty of romance, whether that’s a summertime fling or something longer lasting. It’s framed as an intrinsically personal experience, one that draws out new qualities, hopes and mishaps in each person involved in the relationship.

In keeping with the unpredictable nature of love, the track’s composition rises and falls with varying textures and tempos. It opens in a more dreamy, starry-eyed fashion with laidback drums, light indie guitars and introspective verses provided by Sennen Ludman and Danielle Capstick. This psychedelic sounding introduction breaks character with the impassioned line, “that two lovers kissing are not breathing, I’m can’t tell from where I’m, from where I’m, from where I’m stood.” Here an injection of fuzzy guitar riffs and spacey synths intensifies the whole mood.

Further reflecting the emotional velocity, the track takes on a grittier tone through earthy bass, heavier drums, and a more shoegazey than indie-pop effect. Once again, the lyrical prowess manages to capture what even the most skilled of writers struggles with – the nuances of love.
