We’re easing our way back into the new year with the familiar name of Edie Yvonne whose new single ‘No Rain’ is a soothing tonic for the soul. This artist first came up on our radar in 2023 and she soon become a regular with impressive singles like ‘Darkness Bliss’ and ‘On Your Mind’. With each release, we got to know this songwriter’s unique storytelling ability and her penchant for illuminating the dark corners of one’s mind and heart. Her previous tracks presented a youthful energy that we loved, yet this evocative cover of Blind Melon‘s 1992 single ‘No Rain’. It’s a more paced, nuanced and mesmerising version of Edie Yvonne‘s sound, one that further illuminates the burgeoning talents of this young singer-songwriter.
As you’ll hear, the artist draws on many sonic elements, from nineties psychedelic revival to Americana infused acoustic to bluesy rock-pop melodies. That being said, Yvonne navigates all of this complex genre blending with a graceful ease. Part of that relaxed aura comes from how the song slowly unfolds before you. It opens with a simple, upbeat acoustic guitar which strums along with finger clicks; this immediately sets a down-to-earth atmosphere that we hear carried throughout the track. From there, a reverberated electric guitar refrain echoes in the background while Edie Yvonne‘s mature and steady vocal takes the foreground.
Produced by Douglas Boehm, this mellow rendition of ‘No Rain’ offers a comforting and peaceful reprise from the chaos of the new year. It’s highly recommended to get you through those early morning commutes to and from school and work; it’s just the right balance between optimism and melancholy.
