We all love an underdog and one of those determined, DIY bands that has been diligently perfecting their sound for years is The Forever Now. Originally from Canada, the project has since relocated to Denmark and their new Scandinavian surroundings has offered fresh inspiration. Ever since their debut track ‘Last Day Of The Year’ was released, the band have continually produced cinematic and atmospheric indie-rock sounds that are reminiscent of icons like MGMT and The Naked And Famous. Ever the perfectionists, The Forever Now has just released new single ‘Grounded Satellites’, which has been years in the making.
Listeners will be struck by the immediacy of this song’s powerful presence, which bursts into life after an anticipation building introduction of punchy drums and melodic synths. From there, the track pulsates with surging guitars and relentless percussion which reawakens a nostalgic youthfulness of mid-00s indie-rock. In keeping with the vibrant soundscape, soaring vocals speak to the desperate human desire to hold into the threads of time. In this context, The Forever Now centre the narrative around the fractured relationship of a couple living in a city that no longer holds the allure it once did. As a result, ‘Grounded Satellites’ is packed with a range of emotions from passion to regret to hope to disillusionment; these sentiments spark throughout this kinetic synth-propelled track.
‘Grounded Satellites’ has proven to be a transcendent return for The Forever Now, made all the more special with guest vocals from Raene, The Naked and Famous’ very own Aaron Short, drums courtesy of John O’Reilly Jr. (fun., EL VY, Jimmy Eat World), and mastering by Shawn Hatfield (Yumi Zouma, Kimbra). We hope to hear more of the rescued demos from those early 2018 sessions.
