Jack Miller’s ‘Walk This Way’ transports listeners to a stress-free mindset

Since 2020, New York artist Jack Miller has been diligently crafting his mixed-genre discography, a sound which draws on elements on lofi hip-hop, indie-pop, alt-R&B, funk, soul, and more. The result is a vivid soundscape that acts as the ideal vector for Miller‘s direct yet fluid lyrics. His latest single ‘Walk This Way’ is a catchy example of this intuitive style and it’s one that relays that relatable experience of stepping into a new chapter of your life.

‘Walk This Way’ marks the end of a brief hiatus since last April, and its significance goes into the creative’s own recent events: “After graduating college and entering the ‘real world,’ it feels like I’ve lost creativity in my day-to-day life.  I found myself wishing for an escape, anything to avoid facing whatever reality I had to deal with any given day. I feel like when I sit down to make music, all of the rigidity and structure in my life falls away, and that’s the feeling I’m searching for.  That’s the feeling I know a lot of people are looking for, and I tried to encapsulate that in this song.”

As for the song itself, it opens with an eerie synth that is bound to perk up curious ears before lofi guitars and chunky hip-hop-inspired beats enliven the scene. Following this swift introduction, the artist wastes no time in jumping in with his laidback vocals that are reminiscent of Rex Orange County or Omar Apollo. We also dive into the essence of his track with initial lyrics, “walk this way, catch this wave to a different mind state, elevate, take my hand we can get away, don’t look down as we fly away to better days.” The warm production and these words of encouragement invites listeners to take Miller’s optimistic outlook, whatever challenges you might be facing right now. With relaxed percussion, grooving bass, loose guitars, and easy-going melodies, ‘Walk This Way’ will easily transport listeners to a stress-free mindset.

The single is also a new addition to Miller‘s two year project, his Bedroom Bops EP, and listeners can expect more to come this year. If you’re lucky enough to be around NYC, then you can always catch Jack Miller doing the rounds on the live circuit, a performance that is not to be missed.
