It’s been some time since Norwegian artist BUVKE (aka Sveinung Fossan Bukve) crossed our path, then with his dazzling sophomore single ‘Drown’, which was released back in 2021. Even with some time passing, we instantly recognised the DIY spirit and quirky melodies in his latest release ‘Gonna get it’. Accompanying a B-side ‘Alive’, this new track with its authentic and down-to-earth qualities assure us that that this Bergen-based project is one that has been worth waiting for.
This distinctively upbeat single arrives at the start of a year that’s filled with new hope and potential, or for a few early disappointment, with a simple message – be kind. We follow the path of buoyant percussion and winding guitars that reflect the twists and turns of life’s unpredictable nature. Embedded within this gritty soundtrack conveys the hectic world we often face, but one that could be made less so by being generous to others and give compassion a try. As BUKVE asks with a note of sincere query, “if I hold out my hand, will you give yours?”
Until the 2:20 minute mark, ‘Gonna get it’ has a fairly even pace, peppered with slacker-rock and beach-rock motifs that mirror the songwriter’s easygoing and optimistic outlook. Although, the track still packs a surprise with a vibrant breakdown where heavy-handed drums spar with a bright guitar melody. It’s the kind of moment we can imagine listeners waiting for, especially in a live setting.
It’s safe to say that we’re very happy to have BUKVE back, not only with his new single, but also with the news of his forthcoming album, planned for release at the end of spring this year.
