Liv Eli signals new album with eerie dark-pop single ‘Goodbye Innocence’

Liv Eli is a truly inspirational creative. Hailing from Norway, this artist took her first steps on her musical journey at age 50 with her debut single. Soon enough, listeners were drawn towards unique sonic presence, self-possessed voice and strong songwriting craft. She made an especially profound impact with her debut album, Brother, a highly personal release from 2020 that was dedicated to her late brother and reflects deeply on his passing.

Now in 2024, Liv Eli is ready to take up the mantel again by sharing more of her intuitive, emotionally intelligent and experimentally engaging work. Her latest single ‘Goodbye Innocence’ also happens to be our first introduction to this artist’s distinctive sound. From the song’s opening, our attention is captivated by a collage of eerie synth melodies, an alert rapping noise, and cavernous bass. It brings to mind long Scandinavian winters where the night prevails and the sun seems like it will never return.

As with the songwriter’s previous work, this new single embraces the shadier side of life. It’s not an acceptance, more a quiet awareness that our path is not straight forward. The raw lyrics speak to the consequence of a life-changing decision, one that shatters your perception of the world where once goodness and justice seemed so crisp, but instead a transformed into insecurity and vigilance. This sense of darkness translates into the track’s murky production, deep bass notes, and Eli‘s commanding contralto voice.

Not only is ‘Goodbye Innocence’ a stunning single, but it also signals the release of Liv Eli‘s upcoming sophomore album, The Struggle For Peace Of Mind, due out later this year.

You can listen to ‘Goodbye Innocence’ in our Electro Feels and Outsiders Club playlists.
