It’s official, summer is over and as the days become shorter, the nights longer, and a chill begins to permeate the air, we can’t help but notice our music tastes are changing. In keeping with the seasonal metamorphosis, we find ourselves gravitating towards those darker and spookier sounds to match our new environment. As such, when we heard ‘Hell Breaks Loose’ from Dalton Deschain & the Traveling Show, it was easy snap this horror-inspired track up.
Self-described as “pulp-punk”, this New York band delivers a quirky and ear-catching single that distills directionless rage into decisive action. From the very start, this track has a commanding presence with jaunty keys that set the space for the back-and-forth conversational vocals. With devilish charm and persuasive lyrics, Deschain recruits his listeners into his circus of playful rebellion. It’s a reminder to stand your own ground and celebrate your uniqueness. Even as the track cycles through moments of performance extroversion through to dreamy verses of romantic isolationism, the track never loses sight of the defiant spirit than runs like molten veins of lava throughout.
Complimenting this dance-punk anthem is a cinematic music video inspired by the Italian horror film sub-genre Giallo. Those two voices from the track are embodies by two mediums who take to the seance table for a battle over the spirit realm. Sunken in the shadows, these characters bring to life to gaudy, the spectacular, and the thoroughly attention-grabbing. ‘Hell Breaks Loose’ gives but a taste of what else Dalton Deschain & the Traveling Show have in store for us in their upcoming EP, Bodies for the Geek Pit, Part I., due out on 11th October.
