Many of us share that dream of hopping in a van or car that’s outfitted for daily life and hit the road for a carefree adventure. The desire to leave all of our stresses and mundanity behind is a palpable one. While it may not be possible or practical for everyone, that doesn’t mean that we can’t venture into the realm of imagination and wonderment. Like all good road-trip fantasies, this one also needs a soundtrack and that’s where Myles From Home steps in. The Vancouver-based outfit, led by Myles Hildebrand, is here to take listeners on a journey of the sonic kind with ‘Van Trippin”.
Built around elements of funk, jazz, folk and rock, not only has the song’s genre-blending style caught our attention, but also the completely unexpected structure. With the air of an improvised jam session, this track ducks and weaves with a surprising agility, taking the road less travelled.
Speaking about the real-life trip that inspired Hildebrand to write this track, the musician shares: “This song was inspired by a weekend trip I did up a steep mountain road to a place called Jones Lake. All I wore was a hat and all she wore was a mushroom necklace and we had a blast. This song is about the endless opportunities of the open road. We experiment with alternative time signatures throughout and focus on making the grooves feel unusual but still natural.”
The uplifting nature of this laid-back track is giving us all the good feels to head into the weekend.
