Solis (Sarah-Louise McCaul) plunges into the depths of personal awakening with her latest single ‘Dead Ocean Swimmer’. The Tyrone-born, Brighton-based singer-songwriter offers a mesmerizing blend of gothic noir and dream pop, wrapped in her signature ethereal vocals. Known for crafting soundscapes that evoke both mystery and melancholy, Solis takes us on a journey of self-discovery and rebellion against societal pressures.
Co-written with her creative partner Andy Connor, ‘Dead Ocean Swimmer’ unravels the claustrophobia of modern life while hinting at the thrilling possibility of breaking free. It’s a song that shimmers with dark beauty, balancing Solis’ delicate, haunting voice with a lush yet ghostly arrangement. The track captures that pivotal moment of release—the artist herself used the money saved for a mortgage to buy a camper van and escape conventional life, mirroring the song’s liberating energy.
Speaking directly about the new single, Solis says, “Dead Ocean Swimmer is about trying to make ends meet in every aspect of life. I wrote it at a time when both Andy and I were overwhelmed by the pressures of society. The song became a reminder that a more spacious, free life is possible if you make just a few pivotal decisions. Shortly after writing this, I decided to use the money I had saved for a mortgage to buy a camper van and explore the world. The song flowed effortlessly, mirroring that journey of letting go.”
The lyrics unfurl like a cryptic message in a bottle, the ocean serving as a metaphor for the vastness of possibility. Every note drips with longing, while Solis’ hypnotic delivery holds listeners in a trance, embodying both fragility and strength.
