From the opening notes, Will Knox‘s brand new album English Silence envelops the listener in a warm, comforting embrace. His delicate vocals, paired with his masterful guitar playing, create a soundscape that is both soothing and thought-provoking. Each track is a carefully crafted piece of art, exploring themes of fatherhood, healing, and the complexities of the human experience. This album is a musical journey that invites listeners into the intimate depths of Knox‘s soul, offering a sanctuary from the cacophony of the world.
As the artist himself say of writing the album: “I started writing English Silence during lockdown, having learned I was going to become a father for the first time. The time allowed me to confront a lot of issues from my past, and I was determined not to pass on any of my own issues to my child. I took online therapy sessions and had some difficult but beautiful conversations with friends & family. A lot of unsaid things were said. I realised how difficult I find it to communicate my feelings in the real world, perhaps explaining what has always drawn me to songwriting.”
‘Body Talk‘, a standout track on the album, delves into the nuances of nonverbal communication. Knox’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of how our bodies often speak louder than our words. The song’s gentle melody and introspective tone create a sense of intimacy and vulnerability. The collaboration with Belgian artist Emma Bale adds a unique dimension to the track, highlighting the power of connection and understanding.
Again, Knox shares his insight into this standout track: “Body Talk” is about communicating without words, being sensitive to what someone is thinking by reading their body language, and hoping they understand you in the same way. In the past I’ve often been too nervous, scared or excited to tell someone how I felt, instead relying on physical hints & interactions to communicate.”
The album’s other tracks, such as ‘Growing Pains’ and ‘Trauma Queen’, explore the challenges of personal growth and the enduring impact of past experiences. Knox‘s ability to convey such deep emotions through his music is truly remarkable. English Silence ultimately conveys the power of music to heal and connect. Overall, this album is an unmissable sonic tapestry woven with threads of vulnerability, introspection, and a profound sense of peace.
