Genevieve Miles returns with explosive indie single ‘howl’

Inspired by the likes of Talking Heads, Slowdive, and Courtney Barnett, Genevieve Miles‘ new single ‘howl’ is a cathartic release. It’s a sonic explosion where emotional rawness meets polished production. This also marks a new milestone for Miles, as it’s the first time she’s recorded with her entire band in a studio, capturing an energy that reflects both her musical evolution and her return to Birmingham.

Produced by Jo Cartledge in the creative hub of Digbeth, ‘howl’ delivers a powerful, gritty take on psychedelic indie rock, marked by raw vulnerability and a dynamic blend of shoegaze and rock influences. The track’s ambient, layered guitars and thumping rhythm section mirror the chaos of a broken heart as the emotional starting point. The single’s live appeal shines through in the recording, with its pulsing intensity offering listeners a taste of the captivating presence Miles brings to the stage.

As Miles enthusiastically states, “this has always been our favourite to play live, I am beyond excited that we can all finally cry and scream together at home to this song, one I wrote at ground zero of a broken heart.”

Following the success of her So heavy, so hard to hold EP, this new single showcases an even more daring, introspective side of Miles’s artistry. As she continues to break new ground with each release, Genevieve Miles continues to be one of the indie scene’s most promising voices, unafraid to explore the dark, exhilarating edges of her sound.
