Sleeping Together launch their frenetic & nocturnal indie anthem ‘The Essentials’

Bursting onto the UK’s renowned indie-rock scene is rising four-piece band Sleeping Together. Forged in the post-industrial northern cities of Manchester and Liverpool, this band pour an undefinable grit into their music; something that’s authentic and impossible to fabricate. It’s that determined spirit you’ll find in their latest track ‘The Essentials’.

This explosive single captures the chaos, disorder and hedonism of a messy night out. We’ve all been there, too many drinks, a blur of new and familiar faces, a string of bars and a slurred mess of impulsive decisions. Listening to ‘The Essentials‘ is like being dropped right into the heart of the nocturnal madness. This band doesn’t ease you in, instead they detonate a frenzy of strutting guitars and punching percussion from the very start.

Sleeping Together explain the purposeful direction they took this track in: “We wanted The Essentials to feel like nine months wrapped up in three minutes—a song that barely pauses, just like the night that inspired it. It started with a guitar riff from our drummer—a bit unconventional, but it worked. We then added a second riff inspired by Bloc Party and early Strokes records.”

Matching the powerful energy of this track is a commanding lead vocal with a distinctive northern accent. The lyrics really resonate with those well-intentioned yet ultimately pointless promises we make ourselves, “I’ll just leave my phone at home, so the temptation is left alone, there’ll be no rogue text off to my ex, I mean it when I said I’d make amends.” Sure enough, those sober thoughts will be lost in the intoxicating haze of the night, as we lose ourselves in the feverish throws of this indie anthem.
