We’re shining some extra limelight on one of our recent picks for the Best New Tracks playlist, which is MatAre‘s ‘Attach Your Memories’. This is a delightfully simple yet emotionally affecting dream-pop single which captures a sense of heartfelt longing. It’s a light, artfully produced and nostalgic sound that conveys the image of a hazy memory rising to the surface in all its rose-tinted (or should we say, sunset-tinted) retrospect.
Built on reverb-soaked strings, steady percussion and warm synth textures, there’s definitely a late ’80s, early ’90s shoegaze undertone here akin to The Cure or Slowdive. However, the more clarified style on offer here gives those shoegaze roots a refreshing and modern glow. In keeping with this inviting sound, MatAre‘s vocals sweep in with his precise, poetic lyrics that touch on themes of memory, loss and emotional distance.
Ultimately, ‘Attach Your Memories’ is cohesive and relatable, without trying too hard to impose itself on the listener. MatAre gives us a self-assured narrative that’s perfect for a moment of quiet reflection, eyes to the horizon. Moreover, the track is also a tantalising insight into the artist’s forthcoming album, Extinction Burst.
