Midlands trio Switchdown’s roaring alt-rock single ‘Get Out’

Sometimes a coffee just isn’t enough of an energy boost on a Monday, so we’re taking an extra pick-me-up in the form of Switchdown‘s roaring single ‘Get Out’. This fuzzed-out alt-rock track is fuelled by a potent frustration, one derived from the experience of your independence after moving back home post-graduation only to be shut away in the covid-19 lockdown. While technically a pandemic song, ‘Get Out’ relays such a relatable feeling of life-induced claustrophobia and small-world anxiety.

Composed of relentless guitar riffs and thundering drums, this cathartic listen pairs high-octane punchiness with emotional weight. That sense of reluctant inertia comes through in lines like, “I packed my life into boxes, to hide them in loft space.” If the lyrics weren’t hard-hitting enough for you, these emotive themes are visually translated into a DIY music video. Here an isolated protagonist is in a room that’s literally shrinking around him, echoing that concept of feeling boxed in and restrained.

Produced by Jamie Ward, ‘Get Out’ is for anyone who has ever felt trapped, stuck or relentless, which is… let’s be honest… everyone. Switchdown is so relatable and raw with this release, bringing some true Midlands grit to the forefront.
