Introducing the London-based artist Lewis Knaggs, a singer-songwriter who has been carefully building his discography over the past year. Now, he’s popped up on our radar with a stirring new single titled ‘Liar Liar’. Centered around Knaggs‘ heart-tugging lyrics and his equally evocative vocals, this track is the perfect first-time induction for any new listener. With its clean production and anthemic structure, ‘Liar Liar’ contains a rare intensity that allows an immediate connection with this artist’s core.
A pinging guitar opens the track, sending out a resonant signal to capture any wandering ears, and after a few seconds, Knaggs‘ bold voice joins the fray. His tones, which sit somewhere between Sam Fender and George Ezra, traverse from a dulcet intimacy through to rapturous crescendos. Throughout it all, he retains an emotional potency that is especially effective in ‘Liar Liar’ as he unpacks themes of truth, identity and the lies we tell ourselves. We get access straight into Knaggs‘ headspace with relatable lines like, “I said that I would always love you… you’re all I ever needed, I was wrong.”
As the song progresses, that pop-rock arrangement grows in strength with feverish percussion, relentless strings and more gritty textures. It’s as though the veil of self-deception has been stripped back to reveal the inner turmoil within. Right through to the end, Knaggs keeps returning to that unshakable hook, “wait, liar liar in your headspace,” which not only captures the song’s essence, but it also acts as a repeated reminder that this is dressed to the person within.
‘Liar Liar’ has all the potential to be Lewis Knaggs‘ break-out anthem. We’re sure he has an exciting year ahead!
