“Give a little empathy / show a little love, a little heart for me” sings Sarah, one half of Seattle upstart Satori Blue. The duo is completed by Chancellor, the beat-smith behind the buttons. According to the indie pair, we can expect to hear some of Chancellor’s own vocals on subsequent Satori releases.
There’s a calm commitment to form in their debut single ‘Empathy’. The soundscape is understated, swinging between reversed synths and pitched vocals; all the while Sarah’s melody rings above the ambience. The hook doesn’t kick in until 1:30, but it’s well worth the wait. It’s infectious in an AlunaGeorge kind of way, but there’s a marked lack of distraction – allowing the vocal to breathe.
“We wrote our first single in the spirit of showing a little more empathy in this complex world we are living in. We’ve found a little can go a long way,” Sarah tells Purple Melon.
There’s unbelievable scope for expansion within the sound that the duo is carving out for themselves, and I’m sure there’s more exceptional music to come.
