‘Spiders’ is the debut single from Newcastle based songwriter Martha Hill. Having grown up as one of six siblings on a remote Scottish peninsula, Hill began touring across Europe as a street musician from the age of 17. She has now relocate to the north of England and is beginning to craft her own identity as an artist. Hill supported Mahalia for BBC Introducing and is most definitely one to watch. The new single is an astounding piece of alt-pop, with carefully crafted melodies, polished percussion and Hill’s vocal shining through.
“I wrote ‘Spiders’ after a bat broke into my house in Heaton – my housemate came home and thought I was making it up – this sparked off the idea for the song (hallucinations, feeling crazed). It references emotional health – “spiders in my head” – as well as feelings of displacement.” – Martha Hill
