Genre-defying producer, songwriter and artist Slow Shudder releases stunning debut EP ‘Off The Rails’. With wide-ranging influences that include electronic, pop, indie and dance – she has created an impressive, unique soundscape.
“With my debut EP, I wanted to make a clear statement about what I’m about as an artist and as a human. I spent years on the production because I love left-field sound design and aesthetics, so I’d make one version and then find it too bland, and start again. Many of the sounds in each track were recorded on my phone using a phone-compatible Zoom mic, or sometime’s even just my phone’s standard mic, especially the percussion and FX. I wanted it to feel both familiar and fresh at the same time, with pop structures that feel comfortable and fun, but sounds that are surprising and make you think “What the hell was that?!”
“In the writing, my goal was to share emotional experiences, that I usually keep to myself, in order to connect with others. The music that’s helped me the most in my life has almost always been written from a very introspective place, so I wanted to pay that forward with my own craft. There’s a Bjork quote that I love that sums it up really well – “There are certain emotions in your body that not even your best friend can sympathize with, but you will find the right film or the right book, and it will understand you.” I wanted to do that with these songs, make it so that someone could listen and think “This understands me.”
