Influences: Just John shares his most impactful musical influences

Unrecorded catch up with the coolest new kid on the block, Toronto’s very own Just John, as he gives us an insight into some of his most impactful musical influences, in his own words…

Just John

  1. OutKast – ATliens

“Outkast always inspired me. They were always true to themselves and we’re unapologetic with their sound and image. It inspired me early along my own journey with finding my authentic self.”

2. K-os – Love Song

“K-OS joyful rebellion was one of the first CDs I ever had. It was important to have a reference point like K-OS a Canadian Emcee who was different, an originator and amazing musician. He doesn’t get enough credit for how he’s influenced and opened doors for artists coming out of Canada. Especially the ones who are taking unconventional routes to building their platform.”

3. Rage Against the Machine – Rodeo

Rage influenced me one, with their raucous sound and second from a social activism point. I still to this day study Zack’s live  performance, it’;s fascinating to watch and the band were always unapologetic with what they felt and what they stood for, I carry this with me as an artist.
