Renowned for their passionate live performances, To Kill a King surprises fans today with the release of their Unplugged In Berlin EP. This collection of six tracks, recorded during the 2018 Bastille Reorchestrated tour in Berlin, offers an intimate perspective of the band’s music. This includes focus track ‘Choices‘, which features skilled musician Charlie Barnes and Bastille’s very own frontman Dan Smith, adding extra star power to this acoustic gem.
Ben Jackson of To Kill A King describes the EP as a “the sort of stripped-back, kind-of-acoustic arrangements we would normally have performed at an intimate living room gig or Sofar Sounds show when we were starting out. Except instead of performing to 15 couples on slightly awkward dates, we were performing to a 2000-odd excited Berliners in a venue that looks like it would be Sauron’s favourite concert hall. We think that the intimacy, emotion and rawness has translated well though and it’s a nice opportunity to perform some rarer tunes like “Oh Joy” that we haven’t played much live before.”
The Unplugged In Berlin EP is a nostalgic journey for the band’s fans, marking their first full release since their third album, The Spiritual Dark Age, in 2018. To celebrate their many years entertainign and connecting with their loyal audience, To Kill A King is hitting the road in 2024 with a UK tour to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of their critically acclaimed album Cannibals With Cutlery. The tour will feature a special track-for-track performance of the record.
Frontman Ralph Pelleymounter expresses his excitement about revisiting these songs, “There’s a genuine excitement among us about playing these songs. Learning them all again reminds me how elated we were to be making our first album and that we poured so much feeling into each song. We can’t wait to get back to some of our favourite cities to share that feeling with the fans again.”
Joining To Kill A King on the 2024 tour dates are Charlie Barnes and FOURS, who have reformed especially for these dates. The Cannibals With Cutlery Tour 2024 will be coming to a city near you in January and February.
