Depending on your cultural background, you might have heard the somewhat bizarre myth that storks are known to deliver babies. Evidently, this curious explanation is part of Australian lexicon as the Adelaide-based band Mums Favourite took this as the initial inspiration behind new single ‘Loveboat’. It follows their recent success ‘Wind in the Willows’, and it introducing some intriguing newly fabricated lore.
Here, the band described this reverse-stork situation, “These enchanting boats possess the extraordinary ability to transport you directly to the one who shares a profound connection with your soul.”
From the opening, the track evokes this marine theme with swaying yacht-rock rhythms thanks to drummer Jordy’s adoption of a bassanova-infused style. As the song progresses, it become clear that this journey to one’s soul isn’t smooth sailing. Instead, the band inject tumultuous waves of lively guitar licks, buoyant bass grooves, and tempestual drums. At the helm of this masterpiece is lyricist and lead vocalist Sash whose impressive vocal performance spans from daydreamy nostalgia to frantic urgency in search of her own loveboat.
The exact meaning of this metaphorical vessel is a mystery and yet you can’t help but wonder about your own loveboat’s location. When will it arrive? Where is it heading? These are just some of the questions that Mums Favourite‘s masterful storytelling and palpable chemistry in their latest track ‘Loveboat’ will draw out of you.
