For those who have never heard of Susan G who is she and what is her music about?
Susan G is a sarcastic, coffee loving, Seattleite who fell in love with music while growing up on 90’s Pop and R&B. I learned to sing by listening to Whitney Houston and decided it’s what I wanted to do with my life, while singing “The Greatest Love of All” in a 2nd grade choir performance.
My music is about pockets in time. Relatable issues like working through my phobia of commitment when I met my husband, to throwback memories of traveling through Europe in my 20’s. And you gotta have a good breakup song or two thrown in too right? ☺
I have two boys and make it a point to share the hilarious contrast of pursuing an ambitious career and being a mom on my socials. I want to share the good, bad, and the hard, of a woman being a dedicated mom AND chasing big dreams.
Additionally, I have studied personal branding and social media for the past decade and after doing a weekly livestream during the pandemic, grew even more enamored with it. From there I started advising other creators and now I’m the CEO of Mediary Marketing, a social media marketing and management agency.
Basically anything music, mom, or marketing related, I’m about it.
What has been the most rewarding/ most enjoyable highlight of your career so far?
My last album release – I played my favorite venue, the Triple Door in Seattle and it was one of those nights where the band played perfectly, the place was packed with people from all walks of my life. I remember feeling incredibly lucky at the end of the night to get to take stalk of the supportive community I have around me. I want each show and event I do to be more and more interactive, so it feels less like a performance and more like a memorable night out with your best friends. Being on the Kelly Clarkson show was a pinch me moment too!
What have been some major challenges in your music career so far? Monetization without touring. Making sure to have consistent income within the current music landscape can be tough. However, that is ultimately what led me to explore personal branding and brand partnerships on social media – it’s diversified the industry and has been really beneficial for indie artists, so I guess the real challenge is to make sure to keep evolving. And I’m up for it!
What are you grateful for right now in this moment?
I am grateful for where the entertainment industry is at – where the artist really can be exactly who they are and become very successful. There are so many more options to find your audience these days, and it allows creatives to do what they love and make a good living.
