Our journey thus far with the industrious Luna Keller has been one of introspection and solitude, such as with recent singles ‘Ocean Inside Of Me’ and ‘Invisible Wars’. The Cologne-based musician has portrayed the songs from her Ocean Inside Of Me project as a weary and lonesome travaller, yet it’s not through geographical landscapes that she has ventured, instead it’s the inner psyche. Her songs artfully capture those more sombre and challenging emotions, reflecting her personal life experience. For the latest single, ‘Swallow The Sea’, Keller utilises contrast to emphasis the immense weight of emotion that one may feel they must tackle with the support of others.
The video for ‘Swallow The Sea’ is a particularly powerful portrayal of this theme. It focusses on the almost still figure of Luna Keller whose earnest expression and heartfelt lyrics connect directly with the viewer. Her presence contrasts with the cast of dancers and musician who jovially party on into the night. This visual is a more fantastical version of the isolation many of us experience while struggling with our mental health; whether surrounded by friends, family, colleagues or classmates, our psychological battles can be all consuming.
As such, this song, like so many on the forthcoming album, embraces the listener with warmth and compassion. The gently strummed acoustic guitar and softly textured production is designed to be inviting. While melancholic, there’s also glimmers of optimism which mirrors the darkness before the dawn that is sure to come.
With the release of ‘Swallow The Sea’, listeners can look forward to monthly songs in the run up to Luna Keller‘s album – a record not be missed.
