Edie Yvonne’s ‘Delusion’ is a captivating exploration of teen angst & empowerment

Los Angeles emerging pop sensation Edie Yvonne is no stranger to Unrecorded. We’ve been continuously impressed with this young musician’s songwriter prowess and determined sense of self. Her sound often draws on multiple genres, although her recent series of singles has proved to be a bold new direction. Following singles ‘Girl Code’ and ‘Queen Bee’, Yvonne completes this empowering trilogy with love day release ‘Delusion’.

As with everything from Edie Yvonne, this track surpasses previous expectations, offering a unique yet relatable perspective on life’s twists and turns from her teen perspective. With ‘Delusion’ in particular, the young creative navigates feelings of doubt, confusion, and a classic dose of teen angst. The opening with a grooving refrain is peppered with distant voices of judgement and unwarranted comments. These could be interpreted as critique from others or equally as those voices of self-deprecation in one’s own head. After all, we can often be our own worst enemy.

With driving pop melodies that maximise her controlled and mellifluous vocals, Edie Yvonne charismatically sings “there’s no escape, can’t catch a break, ’cause I’m always running back to you.” The song is infused with beachside guitars and tight rhythms that seem at odds with these visions of entrapment. The steady pace and vibrant production, courtesy of Nicky Swedin and Cormac Liotta, conveys that even for all the emotional and mental obstacles, there’s still a positive approach to take.

‘Delusion’ is a state of mind that can be shifted, so don’t believe those thoughts of disbelief that can bring you down. This single might sound on the surface like another teen-pop anthem, but it’s clearly much deeper and more meaningful.
