Continuing the celebrations for Pride Month, it only feels right to showcase a stellar queer artist Chloe Star’s debut EP, the bed i lie in. Expressing herself through singing, songwriting, and creating stunning visuals, LA-hailing indigenous tribal advocate Chloe Star found her sound through the solace of poetry. Growing up through a chaotic childhood split between Los Angeles and her family’s reservation in San Bernardino, she taught herself to play piano and guitar, transforming her words into lyricism. With a high-octane start to 2024, Chloe Star looks ahead to a flourishing career, with her presence skyrocketing like never before.
The EP is just as unabashedly raw and fierce as she presents herself. The alt-pop rockstar compiled these five tracks to perfectly encapsulate her vulnerable experiences with a sharp edge of striking guitar distortions—a unique combination that Chloe Star has tailored as her own. Hot on the heels of ‘Wasted Youth’, the artist has now unleashed the full fiery passion of her debut EP. The project is filled with vulnerable experiences and personality, all presented through a gleaming but gritty pop and rock blend. Driven and passionate, Star‘s performances are effervescent, diving through empowering lyricism that details some of the most heart-wrenching challenges life has thrown her.
Chloe Star explains, “Loneliness, heartbreak, overcoming addiction, and just life, is the bed i lie in. This is my most authentic piece of work that I have ever written. Being able to put my heart and soul into this project has been so healing for me on so many levels. I am officially walking in my truth and can now shut the door on the bed i lie in.”
Opening with ‘Said What I Said’, it sets a dynamic and intense tone, immediately dropping listeners into the action with roaring distorted guitars and enthralling vocal delivery. ‘Turn Back Time’ is next up, a track that sees the songwriter pour her heart out through the melodies, leaning into some of her more infectious sensibilities and capturing an anthemic essence she continues into ‘Walk Home’. ‘Hollywood Kills’ gives us another serving of pain-drenched fury, soaring from moment to moment before the defenceless motivator ‘Wasted Youth’ returns to wrap up the project.
You can listen to ‘Wasted Youth’ in our Shades of Pop and Indie Rockers playlist.
