Kleio are on the rise with ‘mercury’

Kleio are on a trajectory that’s as dazzling as the celestial body that inspired their latest single. After the incendiary ‘yoko’ and ‘four’, the Irish quartet return with ‘mercury’, a track that’s as scorching as its namesake. This is a band that’s rapidly transforming from promising newcomers to undeniable indie rock titans.

‘mercury’ is a sonic rollercoaster, careening from euphoric heights to melancholic depths. It’s a song that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go, with a relentless drumbeat and guitar fuzz that’s as thick as treacle. Yet, amidst the sonic chaos, there’s a raw vulnerability in Luke’s vocals that gives the track an emotional core. This is a band that’s not afraid to wear its heart on its sleeve, and it’s all the more compelling for it.

Frontman Luke explains, “Mercury was such a fun song to write, I wrote the lyrics on the back of receipts while I was working in a shop and I’d go home every day filled with ideas on how the song should go. It ended up coming together fairly quickly once I took it to Alex, which was a nice change. When we played it live for the first time I remember our friends, who’d been watching us for a while, being blown away by it, the song felt like we had taken a step up in our quality and I’m so excited for people to hear it.”

Kleio’s live shows are the stuff of legend, and ‘mercury’ is tailor-made for the mosh pit. With two sold-out gigs already under their belts this year, it’s clear that these guys have a magnetic stage presence. The band’s meteoric rise is no accident; they’re crafting the kind of anthemic, hook-laden indie rock that’s been sorely missing from the scene. With a headline show at Whelan’s on the horizon, Kleio are poised to cement their status as Irish indie rock royalty. If ‘mercury’ is anything to go by, this is just the beginning.
