Mansfield’s indie-rock upstarts The Publics take flight with ‘D. B. Cooper’

Mansfield’s The Publics are no longer a well-kept secret. After a whirlwind year of gigs, support slots, and a sold-out headline show, the five-piece are set to soar even higher with their debut EP, I Know the World Stopped, but Why Did You? due in September. Comprising Josh Porter, Elliot Stephenson, Ollie Siggee, Tom Scott, and Taylor Gadsby, The Publics are a blend of raw talent and infectious enthusiasm is captivating.

Their newest single ‘D.B. Cooper’ is a thrilling taste of what’s to come. It’s a high-octane blend of snappy riffs and anthemic choruses that will have you singing along in no time. The Publics have clearly been paying their dues, with their sound echoing the likes of The Killers and Catfish and the Bottlemen. Yet, there’s a fresh energy and originality to their music that sets them apart.

‘D.B. Cooper’ is inspired by one of the FBI’s most infamous unsolved mysteries. The band promises a massive breakdown and infectious backing vocals designed to ignite live crowds. With its eerie bassline and sci-fi-infused guitar licks, the song is a thrilling sonic journey. As they prepare to unleash their EP, it’s clear that these indie rock upstarts are ready to take flight.

The band explains, “Based on one of the FBI’s greatest unsolved mysteries, D. B. Cooper recounts how one manager stole from multiple bands before they collapsed and were forced to disband. The song aims to stand out at our festival performances with a huge breakdown section and chanty backing vocals encouraging an energetic response from large crowds. The track’s ominous bass riff is complimented by sci-fi esc guitar licks to create a mysterious atmosphere whilst remaining bouncy and exciting to capture the attention of first time listeners.”
