Introducing Moss Side Sauna Club, whose name is an ode to the famous and sometimes infamous neighbourhood of Manchester. The trio, made of Maddy Storm, Sam Craighan, and Will Brooks, are setting out strong with ‘FREAK’, their chaotic, darkly humourous romp through the underbelly of pop music.
Blending sweet melodies with a gritty, distorted undercurrent, the track is a rollercoaster of emotions, exploring themes of Catholic guilt, raw intimacy, and self-deprecation with a sardonic wit. It’s like a car crash you can’t look away from, a twisted carnival mirror reflecting the absurdity of human experience.
Produced in Salford’s Steam Room Studios, ‘FREAK’ captures the band’s DIY ethos, with Maddy Storm‘s mixing and Pete Maher‘s mastering amplifying the song’s raw energy. The accompanying video, directed by Harry Right Here, is as offbeat as the music itself – a visual representation of the band’s rebellious spirit.
‘FREAK’ is a guilty pleasure, a cathartic scream bottled and sold as a pop song. It’s a bold, unforgettable debut, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next.
