Today we’re pleased to introduce promising new name Axel Kyllo whose self-taught skills and DIY project have instantly caught our attention. His newest single ‘Hymn For A Swan’ proves that all the latest gear and top-of-the-range equipment is no match for sincere and honest songwriting. Listening to this track we were stunned to discover that this track was self-produced in Kyllo‘s bedroom closet using an outdated version of GarageBand.
This down-to-earth approach has also given the track an intimate warmth that perhaps would not have been maintained in a studio setting. You can really hear the pure emotion in Kyllo‘s voice, which soulfully soars over the rich piano. It’s a classic ballad combination but when done well, it really does take your breath away. By taking a DIY angle for ‘Hymn For A Swan’, this artist also further accentuates his emotive themes of heartbreak, loss and longing.
What really makes this song special is that Kyllo isn’t placing himself only in the role of the spurned lover or cast-off friend, but his character takes ownership for the mistakes in the relationship. In the chorus, which Kyllo recalls was written organically and suddenly while sitting at the piano, he sings, “I was a wreck, I was always the mess that you had to put back together again.” It’s this sense of clarity that elevates this song beyond simple heartache into something more profound and altogether real.
