Bolton’s Guri Yeller redefine their sound with ‘Seeing Double’

Our final track through the doors before the day of familial arguments, too many mince pies and your Gran insisting that we all watch the King’s speech is a track that decidedly departs from the festive season – ‘Seeing Double’. From the collective mind palace of Bolton duo Guri Yeller, this track is a gloriously un-christmassy collision of shimmering synths and pulsating rhythms.

Marking a new chapter in the band’s evolution, this neon-lit dreamscape opens with gliding synths that give way to cascading arpeggiators and thundering drumbeat. In this way, the track seems alive, constantly shifting, moving and revealing new facets as each second passes.

At the center of this tableau vivant is Harry Paterson’s falsetto which weave their way into the song’s intricate textures. His layered vocals blur the edges of reality, creating an otherworldly haze that invites you to get lost in the music. Alongside him, Matthew Banton anchors the track with a production style that feels both precise and experimental. Having known each other for a decade, it’s clear that their friendship translates into a seamless synergy in this track.

While you could interpret ‘Seeing Double’ as a play on the fact that this project is a duo, we think this title runs deeper into the nature of Paterson and Banton‘s songwriting. It’s a balancing act of the otherworldly and the grounded; dreamlike atmospheres and driving rhythms; the expansive and intimate. We’re incredibly excited to hear what Guri Yeller might have in store for 2025, especially if it’s half as good as this track.
