We’ve been on the journey with Los Angeles’ most promising young artist Edie Yvonne when we heard the first magnetic sounds from this then 14-year-old newcomer. Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen her grow and mature in confidence and style with tracks like ‘Darkness Bliss’, ‘No Rain’ and ‘Delusion’. Now this increasingly impressive songwriter is back to kick off 2025 with her first single of the year, ‘I Might’.
While her previous singles have been rooted in the indie-rock realm with a few pop flourishes, ‘I Might’ sees Yvonne step into new sonic territory. It opens with a serenade of two guitars; the brushed acoustic strings and anthemic electric guitar notes slow-dance together. This steady introduction immediately injects a sense of trepidation matching the open-ended statement of the song’s title, “I might…” Yvonne‘s voice swaggers in with a quiet intensity that draws out the story of missed connections, miscommunication, and longing.
As the track progresses, Yvonne maintains the creeping energy of this track with those angsty melodies and gritty guitars leading the way. Even when the heat rises in the passionate chorus, the artist keeps her cool, allowing the fiery riffs and thumping drums to wash over her wistful vocals. We’ve said it before but we’ll say it again, her songwriting is wildly mature beyond her years. There’s such an old soul in every song.
If you’re lucky enough to be in L.A. on March 1st, Edie Yvonne will be performing at a charity benefit show for Heart Beats for her teenage audience at Whisky A Go Go.
