New York-born, Long Beach-based musician Geepers! (aka Edison Roberts) is currently gearing up for the release of his album, Snoozin’. With single releases going back to 2022, the forthcoming record has been some time in the making and his latest track ‘Fine Line’ gives us a tantalizing peek into what to expect. As you’ll hear, this indie-pop gem deftly navigates the internal thought process of trying to make the best life choices Should we be thinking more about tomorrow or five years time:? Should we be pursuing pleasure or practicality?
As Roberts himself explains: “Seemingly, every day, I come to a fork in the road that would split off into major life changes, fine lines I need to cross to make the right choices to create the future I want to achieve. This song deals with the difficult decisions and complicated feelings of trying to set yourself on the right path and making the right decision.”
These decisions, whether mundane or life-changing are unavoidable, but listening to this upbeat track certainly helps to make the path ahead appear less daunting. Entirely written, produced and mixed by Roberts, ‘Fine Line’ has such a rare immediacy that’s often quite rare in the genre thanks to this artist’s natural delivery and personal life references.
From the very start, you can’t help but bop along to the joyful guitars and upbeat rhythms, both of which are enhanced by a subtle funk groove. In this way, it brings to mind the carefree quality of mid-2010s indie, particularly that sing-a-long moment “oh it’s a fine line between what’s real and what I want it to be.” If you’re anything like us, ‘Fine Line’ will be going right onto your running or driving playlist, it simply propels you forward and we can’t get enough of it.
