‘Burn the Bridges’ is SANSOM’s incendiary indie-rock anthem

Don’t burn your bridges… it’s a well-meaning piece of advice often doled out by older family members or perhaps friends who consider their life experience to be more extensive than yours. The implication is that you should keep all your connections as you never know when they might be useful to you. However, this well-worn wisdom is perhaps something that we shouldn’t apply to all situations in our lives. Brighton’s SANSOM posits the idea that a little bit of incendiary activity can be used for good. In his aptly named ‘Burn the Bridges’, the artist cuts ties with toxic relationships in an empowering and self-possessing statement.

Drawing inspiration from a fiery spread of rock bands, from Brighton locals Tigercub, to the timeless Queens of the Stone Age, to the ever-distinctive Foo Fighters, SANSOM has crafted a track brimming with tension and catharsis. From start to finish, he doesn’t hold back; it’s all gritty guitars and pounding drums reflecting the disruptive energy that he purposefully brings to the track. His rebellious spirit is most clear in the song’s central refrain, “burn the bridges to light the way,” which shows that his intentions are all about breaking free from those people who only hold you back.

For all its murky textures and heavy-handed percussion, ‘Burn the Bridges’ is undoubtedly liberating and it has placed SANSOM firmly on our radar for future releases.
