Some of you might be already familiar with the outstanding vocals of wht.rbbt.obj’s (White Rabbit Object) front-woman River Toussaint. While the band project has become known for blending garage-rock, blues and soul, this solo endeavour is a notably more restrained affair – yet without lacking that intensity and power that listeners have come to know and love. Our introduction to the Chicago artist’s world is ‘Put Down For Love’, a cosmically hypnotic exploration of love, surrender, and obsession.
Led by Toussaint‘s smouldering vocals, ‘Put Down For Love’ is a track that exists only in the night, under the gentle caresses of the moon. It lends itself to late-night dalliances, star-gazing lovers and that mystical sense of decadent romance. The track’s slow, deliberate rhythm, influenced by trip-hop textures, envelops the listener in a rich and moody atmosphere. While the soulful, bluesy tones, reminiscent of Amy Winehouse or Joss Stone, conveys a story of desire that can only be satiated by complete submission to it.
Everything about this track is lush and intimate from the seductive instrumentation to the stylish production to the persuasive lyrics. It really showcases River Toussaint‘s ability to balance power and fragility, reflecting the careful dance between lust and love.
