Bounding onto our radar for the first time is Chicago’s WOOF with this bold, rambunctious and unmissable new single ‘LICK!’. Walking the line between urgency and introspection, this track is a magnetic post-punk number built around pulsing guitars, moody textures, and unpredictable dynamics. It’s a gripping collision of sound and spirit; as hypnotic as it is haunting.
WOOF leans into the use of contrast to evoke a certain tension. Gritty distortion rubs against smooth melodic undercurrents. The raw vocal performance buffs the polished production. This cultivated tension pulls the listeners into a sonic realm where chaos and control are co-rulers.
It’s a suitable sonic palette for the themes of transformation and inner reckoning that run throughout ‘LICK!’. Interestingly, the lyrics show insight into WOOF‘s background in meditation and shadow work (a process of exploring and integrating the parts of yourself that you’ve repressed or ignored). As such, this track lives and breathes catharsis.
