Julian Sometimes delivers romantic debut ‘Buzz’

Today, we’re excited to introduce Julian Sometimes (the moniker of Julian Drucker) for the very first time with his debut single ‘Buzz’. As soon as we hit play on this track, it felt like a cool, spring-time breeze welcoming in a sense of optimism and renewed vigour. We were immediately struck by his floating falsetto, reminiscent of Sam Smith, which weaves through an unexpectedly bouncy, synth production. It really transports us to a world of fresh romance, filled with fresh discoveries yet to be made.

Beyond the initial impression, ‘Buzz’ is a piece of genre-blending pop charm built on jazzy chord progressions, indie-synth flourishes and sophisticated songwriting. Drucker provides the perfect example of how to craft a track with mainstream appeal while retaining an alluring indie shimmer and, most importantly, an essential humanity.

That personal edge is no doubt rooted in the intimate recording at Drucker‘s friend’s Burbank home studio. This relaxed, familiar setting, yet a complete contrast to the artist’s East Coast beginnings, evoked that rare alchemy of authenticity. Evidently, ‘Buzz’ is a brilliant first step for Julian Sometimes and we can’t wait to hear more.

You can also find ‘Buzz’ in our Shades of Pop and Soul & Grooves playlists.
