One of our favourite singer-songwriters Dom Malin returns with ‘bloodmoon’, a release that’s nothing short of spell-binding; casting a familiar spell on us with his indie-folk charm and heartfelt lyricism. We’ve followed the British musician’s journey for some time now, picking up standout singles like ‘Surface’, ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Keep Out The Rain’, and it’s exhilarating to witness his strengthening evolution with each release.
In keeping with his emotion-led songwriting, ‘bloodmoon’ is bold, beautiful, and magnetic. It’s a swelling wave of earnestness. Like a glowing ember in the night sky, this track burns slow with a mixture of longing patience and intimate warmth. This atmosphere is emphasised by the sweeping production, touched by americana hues and earthy folk textures, one that carries Malin’s voice like a breeze through trees and grasslands. It’s grounded, nostalgic and effortlessly affecting.
As we’ve already hinted towards, the metaphor of the blood moon is a powerful one here. That rare, celestial event symbolises the quiet, gravitational pull of someone who never quite fades from memory. There’s a cinematic quality to it all, like standing on a ridge under a vast sky and remembering a love that still flickers in the dark.
Malin remains an adherent to celebrating the small moments; those small, everyday yet at the same time life-changing moment.
You can find ‘bloodmoon’ in our Folk This Way playlist.
